Best of Our Blogs: July 7, 2017

When things are going right, we seldom grow. It’s the hard stuff that makes us pause, reflect on how we’ve been living and stretch for something better.

But those difficult times require grit and resilience. How do you get through days when you’re dragging your feet, feel out of sorts and everything seems to be going wrong?

Nothing floors me like illness. Since I still have to raise two toddlers when I’m faced with fatigue or a general sense of dis-ease I look toward the following to lift me back up.

  1. Listen or read about people who have suffered, survived and succeeded through it. Podcasts, Super Soul Sunday and our inspiring posts help.
  2. I think of what spiritual leader and author Iyanla Vanzant said on Super Soul Sunday: “Sit down, shut up and listen.”
  3. I look for the good things (e.g. feeling a cool breeze on a hot day, catching fireworks on 4th of July, and watching a funny movie) even when it seems sparse and let myself fully revel in it.
  4. I meditate and visualize myself healthy, happy and at peace.
  5. I rest. I lie down on the couch. I sit on grass. I don’t look at my phone, write or watch TV. I give myself permission to do nothing.
