Introducing A Bipolar, a Schizophrenia, and a Podcast

A Bipolar, a Schizophrenic, and a Podcast is a new weekly podcast premiering on March 19, 2018. Hosted by Psych Central, the show will explore life through the unique double lens of Michelle Hammer, a young woman living with schizophrenia, and Gabe Howard, a man living with bipolar. Each episode will explore their past and present experiences as shaped by mental illness.

Listeners will learn about what it is like living with and surviving mental illness, and have a great time doing it. The hosts’ candid talk about their lives will make listeners never look at schizophrenia or bipolar disorder the same way again.

A Quick Rundown of the New Show

Q. Why the “mature” rating?

A. The purpose of the show is to talk about real life living with mental illness. Real life is messy and often includes stories about sex, substance abuse, or suicidality – just to name a few “mature” themes. Sure, there’s a bit of swearing, too, but nothing that you won’t hear on basic cable or in the average PG-13 movie.

Q. Why are you recording after midnight in vacant locations?

A. The best conversations often happen in the wee hours when there are no distractions. Being vulnerable takes a certain level of comfort and nothing creates that space like late night private conversations with your friends. Pizza, of course, also helps.

Q. How is this different from Gabe’s other podcast, The Psych Central Show?

A. First, Michelle Hammer is nothing like Vincent M. Wales. The Psych Central Show is an educational program featuring experts in the world of psychology and mental health and the hosts work with them to explain complex topics in understandable — and entertaining — ways.

A Bipolar, a Schizophrenic, and a Podcast is more voyeuristic in nature. Sit back and listen to how people living with mental illness view the world. Gabe and Michelle have agreed to share their views on everything from living with bipolar and schizophrenia to what’s their favorite pizza and everything in between. Plus, Gabe and Vincent are friends. Gabe and Michelle are snarky frenemies.
