What do Henry Winkler — aka Arthur “the Fonz” Fonzarelli from TV’s Happy Days; Rick Green, known for his roles in TV’s The Red Green Show and History Bites and comedy troupe The Frantics, and Jonathan Mooney — popular motivational speaker and acclaimed author of The Short Bus, have in common?
Invisible disabilities.
From dyslexia to ADHD, author Carter Hammett delves into the lives of adults with disabilities who have turned their challenges into successful, fulfilling careers — not by working against their deficits — but by working with them.
We’ll speak with Hammett about what he learned from his experience writing his recently released Book of Disquiet, Dispatches From the Disability Frontlines, and share gems he’s mined about how to navigate life with disabilities and join the book’s subjects, to become “ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”
By attending this free webinar, you’ll learn:
- How a disability can sometimes be an asset rather than a liability
- How changing the context may improve chances of success with ADHD
- The advantage of having a unique perspective due to a disability
- The answer to: Do you own your disability or does your disability own you? – and why it’s important
- Why it’s important to know how different cultures understand disabilities
Presenter Carter Hammett, an adult with ADHD and L.D.’s, is a social worker, writer and trainer. He graduated from Cape Breton University with a Bachelor of Community Studies and holds diplomas in social work, adult education and journalism. His work has appeared in The Toronto Sun, The National Post, The Toronto Star, The Ottawa Citizen, Abilities Magazine and others. He is the author of two previous books, including the well-received Benchmarking: A Guide to Hiring and Managing Persons with Learning Disabilities. Hammett currently lives in Toronto.
